A child prodigy from Kentucky, he worked in Cincinnati from 1817 to 1820 prior to a stint in Philadelphia studying with Thomas Sully. Having had some early training with a Mr. Turner, an itinerant artist in Maysville, Corwine quickly developed some defining characteristics.
